Fiona Hollingworth - Finances FTP August 2016

Fiona Hollingworth - MOE

Use of Bulk grant - use tchrs less than $67,000 to manage overuse.

Cyclical maintenance - painting.
Ops grant.  Plan for this ie 7 year cycle and put money away to allow for this. Do we have a painting contract??  Rather not ... tend to cost more, can be inflexible.  You can find cheaper, local options by using caretaker or people.
We need to relook at our 10 year plan.   Could include other things fixed to the school ie carpet, wall linings.  Check out with Vikanda - property MOE.

Depreciation.  Think it of a long term plan.  Recognises that assets with a useful life of 1yr plus.   ie laptop $1000 over three years (useful life)  Therefore depreciation figure $330.   After three years you then have $1000 to replace the laptop (setting money aside).   Include in budget BOT capital asset plan (ask Fiona for this template).  (What are our assets and when will need to replace them plus anything else on our wishlist for assets).

Asset register.  Take photos/have descriptors and serial numbers for insurance.  Go through it with S and Services and clear it off.  Whose job it this - ie Finance Manager.

Will tell us Ops Grant and Staffing.  Will include GST so don't put GST in budget.   Be realistic not optimistic when you set budget.
Look at this year and last year's actuals compared to what was budgeted for.    (Activities and trading)  Management of trips ie contributions vs actual
what we get.

Have some untagged cash reserves for things such sick office manager - sick leave plus replacement needs to be paid for.   FIND STAFFING HANDBOOK.  Look at provisional staffing and go for review if it doesn't look right if it looks like it is out by more than 5%.  Go to Senior Advisor for advice re process.

Be clear and transparent about what is voluntary and what is compulsory for parents to pay.  2 things that are compulsory - payment for goods and service ie uniform/stationery, take home component for Technology.
Camp letter/swimming - we request payment before hand. Take out word where it says fee/expected.   Cost

General donation - non compulsory (not GST) parents can claim back.

Voluntary contributions.   ie camp, swimming, skiing.   Can ask for contribution.   Cannot stop kids from going if not paid.    Look at Grants for swimming/camps/William Pike sponsorship.

Out of school ie basketball - can be charged as goods and services ... skiing also (voluntary component)

Mana Enhancement Project - PD led by Steve and James

Mana Enhancement Model A tool for Positive Behaviour Management Uses narrative and stories of Māori creation to understand the student's mana and to feed into the strengths of students.   Maui is a key figure.  Mana is central in the model. See more information below about Mana Enhancement from Steve's slideshow Papatuanuku (earth mother) - what nurtures, calms, sustains us When asking the children about the aspects of papatuanuku, listen without judgement. Ranginui (sky father) - how we respond to life's challenges My reflections - This is a useful model to help students better understand their own emotions and how to self regulate.  How could this be part of our wellbeing model and be utilised within our existing pastoral care model.    One on one mentoring with key students - using the model to support students with their individual behaviour goals. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1o-aC1IideJtMCVXTbokYBtMfCQR3pbbhWhpTOpWzhb0...
