Anxiety in Children Presentation - August 2016

Anxiety in Children Anxiety is a normal response.   It is our alarm system.  It keeps us safe.   For some children the volume is turned up too high and it gets in the way of normal functioning.   It is incredible common in society.   It is also not always rational.  Typically children who are anxious are quite variable in their responses from day to day and from situation to situation. It is not always easy to find the cause, can be a temperament thing.   Tend to be sensitive, caring and often have good imaginations, impacted by visual and auditory information.   Less is more when talking to children about the why and the specifics.   The message needs to be you can still do everything if you are anxious, it just needs to be managed. We need to support our children to face the fear and try to avoid avoiding the situation.   There must be anxiety along the way for the brain to learn there is actually nothing to be afraid of! Fiona Hollingworth - Finances FTP August 2016

Fiona Hollingworth - MOE Use of Bulk grant - use tchrs less than $67,000 to manage overuse. Cyclical maintenance - painting. Ops grant.  Plan for this ie 7 year cycle and put money away to allow for this. Do we have a painting contract??  Rather not ... tend to cost more, can be inflexible.  You can find cheaper, local options by using caretaker or people. We need to relook at our 10 year plan.   Could include other things fixed to the school ie carpet, wall linings.  Check out with Vikanda - property MOE. Depreciation.  Think it of a long term plan.  Recognises that assets with a useful life of 1yr plus.   ie laptop $1000 over three years (useful life)  Therefore depreciation figure $330.   After three years you then have $1000 to replace the laptop (setting money aside).   Include in budget BOT capital asset plan (ask Fiona for this template).  (What are our assets and when will need to replace them plus anyt...

Building Teacher Capability - FTP August 2016

Change through Theory Engagement 1. Identify the problem. 2.  Reveal the theory in use - what is their thinking around their current practice? 3.  Evaluate the relative merit of the current and alternative theories of action?      (try to get to common ground) 4.  Implement and monitor a new sufficiently shared theory. Example of a teacher: Factors contributing to their current state. Mental health, ego, laziness, fixed mindset. Typical change process. Need to do the double loop - go back to the key beliefs and values and why is this happening?  Based on trust.   Avoid going straight to actions. Use the Ladder of Inference - test your hypotheses Check out the assumptions "this is my thinking, based on what I am seeing, have I got it right??" Use this to try to get to some common ground and build support. OTL Values Reflecting now Have you been honest about your concerns around capability? What evidence?   What a...
