PB4L Principal Forum - August 2020 - presentation to eleven school leadership teams

PB4L Principal Forum August 2020

Mihi / intro / our school / our context / our vision

Why did we want to be a part of the  PB4L professional learning?

We were eager to:

be better as a team in this space, gain more tools for our kete, have a research based framework that would help shape our Breens Positive Behaviour Curriculum

Where have we come from?

A predict and prevent type approach

Relationships first      Restorative approach

Positive behaviour system - lacking depth and ownership

Getting alongside whānau early and working together

Development  of a school wide wellbeing support model  - strategic goals around this for 3 years.

A well embedded values base as a starting point

Strong collaborative team culture / these are our kids - village approach

SLT drowning in orange and red type behaviours, less emphasis on positive school wide

The benefits for our school - what have we achieved so far?

School wide acknowledgement system

Better sharing and analysis of school wide data - both positive and negative

Tweaking of our school wellbeing model

Empowerment, particularly our young staff

Accountability - shared MATES about what we agreed was best for the school

PB4L Behaviour Matrix and Deliberate teaching of our catch phrases

A Breens PB4L curriculum that we have developed  together over this time

Where are we now?  Where to next?

More work at systems level and continuing to intentionally plan  to keep the teaching at the forefront

Continue to review and tweak acknowledgement system

Producing Breens PB4L diaries for each child for 2021

Continue to have robust conversations and hold each other accountable (MATES)

Continuing to strive for consistency across teams

Richard Gerver Ted Talks  - Finding A Higher Sense of Purpose A generation seeking the silver bullet.   No helping the mental health of our young teachers.  There is no silver bullet. AI.  Teaching young people to think critically to edit, and craft using AI.    Clever prompts and crafting/editing. Eric Schmit - CEO of Google (10 years). The greatest challenge I faced was our success.   When you have nothing to lose, you go at everything.  The more successful we became, the more we have to lose, the more protective we became. VISION Remind your people that they are brilliant and galvanise around our vision. Be courageous.    Stay true to what is right for your context, your community, what you know works and holds true to vision and our values. Clarity What do you stand for?    What makes us difference, hold true to that.   Ask the kids too    Coherence   What we project outwards, is this what...
