Ted Talks - Finding A Higher Sense of Purpose

A generation seeking the silver bullet.   No helping the mental health of our young teachers.  There is no silver bullet.

AI.  Teaching young people to think critically to edit, and craft using AI.    Clever prompts and crafting/editing.

Eric Schmit - CEO of Google (10 years). The greatest challenge I faced was our success.   When you have nothing to lose, you go at everything.  The more successful we became, the more we have to lose, the more protective we became.

VISION Remind your people that they are brilliant and galvanise around our vision.

Be courageous.    Stay true to what is right for your context, your community, what you know works and holds true to vision and our values.

  • Clarity
  • What do you stand for?    What makes us difference, hold true to that.   Ask the kids too
  • Coherence  What we project outwards, is this what it feels like for teachers and children.     Are our teachers modelling in the way we expect our children too.
  • Internal / External
  • Leadership
  • Do the adults (as leaders) symbolise the best values in the school?
Living, Learning, Laughing

"Education is a celebration of life, not a preparation for life."

Soft skills, creative skills, ability to research and make sense of information.

Where is collaboration and creativity and critical thinking sitting in our current curriculum design @Breens?

The stories we tell our selves.   Is the story you are telling yourself serving your future self?

Project Aristotle was a study conducted by Google to understand what makes teams successfulThe project, named after Aristotle's quote, "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts," focused on identifying the factors that contribute to effective team dynamics. The New York Times and LinkedIn also discuss Project Aristotle.
Key Findings:
  • Psychological Safety:
The most significant factor identified was psychological safety, where team members feel comfortable being themselves, voicing opinions, and taking risks.
  • Dependability:
Teams that are reliable and consistently deliver on their commitments also perform well.
  • Structure and Clarity:
Clear roles, goals, and expectations are crucial for effective teamwork.
  • Meaning:
A sense of purpose and connection to the team's work is important for motivation and engagement.
  • Impact:
Seeing the positive impact of their work on the organization motivates team members and enhances performance.
Methodology:
  • The study involved analyzing data from hundreds of Google teams.
  • Researchers examined various aspects of team performance and team member behavior.
  • They collected both quantitative and qualitative data to gain a comprehensive understanding of team effectiveness.

No work life balance - not a thing.     Stress is not necessary a bad thing.
Work flows and stress comes and goes, everything passes.    Push through the busy times, look for the quiet times where you are able to rest and recover for the next busy time.

Mana Enhancement Project - PD led by Steve and James

Mana Enhancement Model A tool for Positive Behaviour Management Uses narrative and stories of Māori creation to understand the student's mana and to feed into the strengths of students.   Maui is a key figure.  Mana is central in the model. See more information below about Mana Enhancement from Steve's slideshow Papatuanuku (earth mother) - what nurtures, calms, sustains us When asking the children about the aspects of papatuanuku, listen without judgement. Ranginui (sky father) - how we respond to life's challenges My reflections - This is a useful model to help students better understand their own emotions and how to self regulate.  How could this be part of our wellbeing model and be utilised within our existing pastoral care model.    One on one mentoring with key students - using the model to support students with their individual behaviour goals. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1o-aC1IideJtMCVXTbokYBtMfCQR3pbbhWhpTOpWzhb0...
