Post COVID quarantine reflections 2020

Some musings post COVID quarantine ...

Things to hang on to:
quality time with good people
fresh air and exercise
time to breath
time to read and time to learn
time to be creative
time to just be
feeling grateful for the things that matter most

Things to let go off:
the rush
the pursuit of absolute perfection
the aspiration to be everything to every person
the need to please every single person all of the time

Recognising the accomplishments of the Breens team

I am blessed by the people I work with - the staff have been true to our school values during this time by:

going the extra mile
learning along the way and being ok about being at the bottom of the learning pit
being brave and face the uncomfortable head on
working out of role at times for the greater good of the team
looking out for others
at all time trying to do their BEST and be B E S T
being bold - showing initiative and demonstrating innovation in thinking

It hasn't been easy.  It has been tough going at times.   At times we have been giving giving giving and not getting much back from some.   At times we have not wanted to necessary engage or do what has been asked of us.    Your situational agility has been tested and no doubt strengthened.   By embracing all of the emotion along the way it will make us stronger going forward.

But there have been so many little and large triumphs along the way including:

Stronger connections between home and school
New learning for all us
Time to reflect what really matters
Time to rethink what we really want to achieve with our students at school.

Mana Enhancement Project - PD led by Steve and James

Mana Enhancement Model A tool for Positive Behaviour Management Uses narrative and stories of Māori creation to understand the student's mana and to feed into the strengths of students.   Maui is a key figure.  Mana is central in the model. See more information below about Mana Enhancement from Steve's slideshow Papatuanuku (earth mother) - what nurtures, calms, sustains us When asking the children about the aspects of papatuanuku, listen without judgement. Ranginui (sky father) - how we respond to life's challenges My reflections - This is a useful model to help students better understand their own emotions and how to self regulate.  How could this be part of our wellbeing model and be utilised within our existing pastoral care model.    One on one mentoring with key students - using the model to support students with their individual behaviour goals. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1o-aC1IideJtMCVXTbokYBtMfCQR3pbbhWhpTOpWzhb0...
