Final Week of Term One

Bouquets - Things to be Proud Of?

  • Strong collaboration within and between teams - staff.
  • All teams are utilising digital tools to assist with learning - no problems with misuse or with care of devices.
  • All teams have rolled out Independent Learning using SOLO as a framework.   A move to avatars instead of photos - ensuring students are able to know where they are at yet maintain dignity as learners.
  • All teams have identified priority/target students and have reported to the BOT using name/number/need around estimated OTJs.
  • All teams have developed their own team MATES for students - expectations for learning based on Breens Values.
  • Technology Team has been experimenting with some Flipped Learner and their tasks are included in team AKO learning.

Thinking Critically - What can we do better?

  • Teachers are collaborating.  How much are students really collaborating?  How much group work and group discussion is going on?
  • Teacher Talk vs Student Talk ... How much student talk and student feedback is going on in group lessons?   Who is really the centre of attention?
  • Use of devices.   Can we create more tasks where the devices are used as tools to create learning?  SAMR.
  • How much paper is really needed?  How much really has to be done independently using worksheets ... can some evidence of learning be shown using voice recordings or videos of discussions?

Challenge for tomorrow's Term Two Planning Meeting - for Nath and I to create some dissonance in the discussion as we reflect back on the term using our MATES to think deeply about what practice is looking like across the teams.

Mana Enhancement Project - PD led by Steve and James

Mana Enhancement Model A tool for Positive Behaviour Management Uses narrative and stories of Māori creation to understand the student's mana and to feed into the strengths of students.   Maui is a key figure.  Mana is central in the model. See more information below about Mana Enhancement from Steve's slideshow Papatuanuku (earth mother) - what nurtures, calms, sustains us When asking the children about the aspects of papatuanuku, listen without judgement. Ranginui (sky father) - how we respond to life's challenges My reflections - This is a useful model to help students better understand their own emotions and how to self regulate.  How could this be part of our wellbeing model and be utilised within our existing pastoral care model.    One on one mentoring with key students - using the model to support students with their individual behaviour goals. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1o-aC1IideJtMCVXTbokYBtMfCQR3pbbhWhpTOpWzhb0...
