Lucy Hone The Science of Wellbeing Intro to science of wellbeing -Why? Prevalence of mental illness and stress is rising among the population. (¼) of all children before reaching adolescents are affected. Self harm and attempted suicide on the rise. Produces ‘fragile thoroughbreds’ - many high achieving children really suffer with mental health when they finally leave the structure of school and real life pressure kick in. Growing amount of research indicating positive effects. Positive psychology is the psychology of how we keep people on the positive side of mental health.  We have more resilience to trauma if we have higher levels of well being. Same is said for engagement with education. Weight belts and flippers.  Some people spend their lives fighting to stay afloat, while others are much more able to swim at their pleasure.
